This report, released by the VNPC Data Team on September 19, 2025, examines maternal and infant health outcomes in Virginia by comparing rural, suburban, and urban areas using data from the VHHA Maternal Health Dashboard and PRAMS. The analysis found that rural regions had higher rates of stillbirth, cesarean delivery, obesity, and lower rates of prenatal care utilization, while suburban areas saw rising hypertension rates; breastfeeding rates were also lower in rural communities compared to urban ones. The findings highlight the need for community-based strategies, stronger care models, and expanded telehealth to improve health outcomes across all regions.
