Executive Summary: The purpose of this report was to examine Severe Hypertension among deliveries in Virginia, drawing on data collected from 2020 to 2024 sourced primarily from the VHHA (Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association) maternal health dashboard as well as the MMRT (Maternal Mortality Review Team) report. When analyzing the relationship between SMM among deliveries with Severe Hypertension, there is an increased association noted from 2020 to 2024. Additionally, rates of SMM among deliveries with Severe Hypertension are higher among Black non-Hispanic deliveries and Other payer. The findings of this report illuminate variability among Severe Hypertension that suggests targeted interventions that work to focus implementation strategies to address disparities.
